Medical Sociology Online
Guidelines for Authors
Papers
Medical Sociology Online will publish at least two peer reviewed papers in each issue on any aspect of medical sociology. Submissions from postgraduate and first time authors are strongly encouraged.
Peer Review Process
The papers submitted will be blind reviewed by anonymous peer reviewers. Authors are encouraged to supply the names of potential referees, although the Editorial Team reserves the right to choose the referees.
Length
Papers should be no longer than 6,000 words including references and footnotes (abstracts, tables, figures and illustrations are excluded from the word count).
Submission
Papers must be submitted electronically by e-mail, in Word format. Please see the Style Guidelines for information on layout, style and referencing conventions for Medical Sociology Online.
Submissions are welcomed at any time. Due to the reviewing process and twice yearly publication (Medical Sociology Online is published twice a year in Spring and Autumn), there could be a maximum of nine months interval between submission and publication of peer reviewed papers, though it is anticipated that this will often be considerably shorter.
Simultaneous submissions to other print or electronic journals are not permitted. All submissions should be accompanied by a written declaration that the paper has not been submitted for consideration elsewhere.
Proofs
As all correspondence for the journal will be electronic, authors will be e-mailed the final version of the paper prior to publication. Corrections requested by referees will be sent by e-mail and authors will then be requested to re-submit the paper. The resubmitted paper will need to be accompanied by a detailed description of the corrections that have been have made. It is important that authors highlight these corrections in a form that the desk-editor can easily see where the changes have been made (e.g. track changes).
