Research Fellow in Bioethics/Philosophy, Birmingham

Salary from £27,578 to £38,140 a year

We are seeking a Research Fellow (Grade 7) to work with Professor Heather Draper to evaluate an ethical advisory service being offered to developers and users as part of the SURVEILLE (Surveillance: Ethical Issues, Legal Limitations and Efficiency) project. The post-holder will take a lead role in developing research objectives and protocol for the evaluation, collection and analysis the data and in writing up the results.

The researcher appointed will also work be expected assist Heather Draper to prepare applications for future research funding and provide her with general administrative support. She or he will be part of the wider team of Medicine, Ethics, Society and History (MESH) but will also be working closely with other researcher in the Centre for the Study of Global Ethics working on the SURVEILLE project. The post holder will also be expected to contribute to the writing of publications for peer-reviewed journals.

The successful candidate will have a good first degree and/or PhD in Philosophy (or a closely related/relevant area) and be competent to undertake qualitative research as well as philosophical research in applied ethics/bioethics.

The post holder will be based in MESH in the School of Health and Population Sciences, and will also participate in the departmental undergraduate and postgraduate teaching programmes.
